Food Rescue Hero™ and 412 Food Rescue proudly announce their 2023 Impact Report, showcasing a year of notable growth and resilience. Guided by Interim CEO Karin Sabey and Board of Directors, and supported by dedicated volunteers and staff, the organizations rescued 4.4 million pounds of food locally in Pittsburgh, and facilitated over 43 million pounds rescued across North America in 2023.

For those who don’t know, Food Rescue Hero was birthed from 412 Food Rescue, an actively operating food recovery organization based in Pittsburgh, PA. 412 Food Rescue developed an innovative, integrated platform, Food Rescue Hero, which includes a proprietary app that makes claiming food rescues easy and convenient, guiding each volunteer every step of the way from pick up to delivery. To this day, 412 Food Rescue continues to be a major part of the Food Rescue Hero story.

Food Rescue Hero is now licensed for use at 18 food rescue organizations in North America.

In 2023, we made significant strides in organizational growth through strategic hires and promotions for our staff, as well as releasing new platform features and updates for the licensed technology.

The Food Rescue Hero™ network grew significantly, enabling 17 organizations across North America to rescue a cumulative 170 million pounds of food since 2015, equivalent to 140 million meals and mitigating over 330 million pounds of CO2 emissions.
