Janice Tosto

Hunger Relief Supervisor - Bebashi Transition to Hope

Janice Tosto is the Hunger Relief Supervisor for Bebashi Transition to Hope, an HIV/AIDS services organization based in Spring Garden. She manages the Food First Pantry, which serves over 1,000 individuals monthly. Janice also oversees the Health Enterprise Zone (HEZ) Project, in which her staff provide nutrition support to students and families at North and Northwest Philadelphia public schools. Her community activities at Bebashi have included serving as a Census Champion, helping Philadelphia residents complete the 2020 census and encouraging residents to vote.

Prior to coming to Bebashi, Janice served as a Housing Specialist for The Partnership for the Homeless in New York City. From 2016-2018 she was the Career Mentoring Program Coordinator for The Partnership’s Economic Opportunities Program designed for formerly homeless mothers. Janice has over 10 years of experience in the workforce development field, and once managed a green training program for CDL Hazmat Drivers, Pest Control Technicians, Construction Workers and Environmental Remediation Technicians.

A Germantown resident since 2018, Janice actively supports organizations in her community. She volunteers for special events held by the Germantown Community Fridge, and enjoys making sandwiches for the fridge. Janice is also a volunteer for Germantown Community Radio, known as G-Town Radio, where she hosts a monthly radio program titled “Grief Journeys.” Janice’s work for the radio station was profiled in the “We the People” column for the Philadelphia Inquirer in March of this year.

Janice holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies, with a concentration in Women’s Studies from the State University of New York/ College at Old Westbury, where she received the Presidential Medal for Scholarship in her senior year. Janice earned master’s degrees in Guidance and Counseling and Urban Affairs from Hunter College of the City University of New York. In addition, she earned a professional certificate in Management Practices from NYU’s School of Professional Studies.
