Joan Risbano, MS, MPH, RD, LDN


As a Registered Dietitian, Joanie has 23 years of experience, working in a variety of settings. She currently works under a clinical case management team at Cigna, where she had the unique opportunity to develop her own role. In this position Joanie provides 1:1 nutrition-related support and care coordination to improve health status, reduce health risks, and improve quality of life for her patients.

She began her career in Boston, working for a Harvard teaching hospital as a clinical dietitian, primarily in the medical intensive care unit. She has additional experience providing outpatient nutrition counseling and worksite wellness program development at the grass-roots level. Joanie worked as a clinical nutrition manager prior to joining Cigna in 2010 as a telephonic health/wellness coach.

Joanie holds two Master’s degrees from Tufts University in nutrition and public health. She has served on the board of directors for the Pittsburgh Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and is a member of the national Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.

In her free time Joanie can be found running in Pittsburgh’s North Park, gardening, traveling, and volunteering with 412 Food Rescue.
